Book of the Week

Welcome to what I hope is going to become a regular thing on my blog. You’ve probably guessed what this is (it really does not take much explanation) but basically the whole idea is a really short quick post telling you about a book I’ve picked to represent the week. Maybe it’s a book that’s been out awhile but I haven’t gotten around to it, maybe it’s a book I’ve read and loved, maybe it’s an anticipated read- the whole point is that there is no rules! So without further ado I hope you like my pick of the week!

This week’s pick is the highly anticipated (I’ve been so excited you would not believe!) The Dark Days Deceit by Alison Goodman. This is book three in the incredible The Dark Days Club trilogy. The series is set in 1800s England. It surrounds our main character Lady Helen’s struggles to balance the duties of a woman during her time period alongside duties to her country (that are somewhat magical) that she never knew she had. Basically I think you will love this series if you are a fan of Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices trilogy if that gives you any idea.

I finished the second book in this trilogy, The Dark Days Pact back in May and have been desperately waiting for this book ever since. Now I am on roughly page 150 of the final book and I am trying to take it so slow (but it is so hard!) because I know how much I am going to miss the characters and the world once I read the last page. I would not object to a fourth book in the slightest. The historical accuracy is from what I can see is impeccable and has been used to create this wonderful atmospheric read full of intriguing characters. Goodman does suspense very, very well- you will be on the edge of your seat for the entire span of these books as I currently am. I am so excited but so very nervous to see how one of my favourite series is going to end.

Although the series is known for been quite slow it is so well suited and enjoyable in this case. Initially I did find it hard to get into the series but after awhile I was immersed and I really came to appreciate the incredible descriptions of the settings. Goodman truly transports you to her setting and if you haven’t read this series yet you are in for a treat! The Dark Days Deceit just came out a few days ago so you don’t have to suffer the infuriating wait between books. I really do recommend you check out these books and I hope you love them as much as I do!
